Our story began with one lawyer’s journey and has grown into a movement transforming how internationally trained lawyers integrate into Canada’s legal system.
In 2011, Charles Osuji uprooted himself and his developing legal career, moving from Nigeria to Calgary, Alberta. As an internationally trained lawyer, he faced daunting challenges that many in his position understand all too well.
Re-accreditation processes, building a professional network from scratch, and finding opportunities to prove his worth in a new legal system—these obstacles were formidable but not insurmountable.
Through determination and hard work, Charles not only overcame these challenges but built a thriving career. His experience became the foundation upon which FIDI was established—a program dedicated to helping others navigate the same path more smoothly.
Today, FIDI stands as a testament to the power of lived experience combined with a commitment to lifting others up.

FIDI is powered by Osuji & Smith, a law firm renowned for its expertise in employment, family, and business law. The firm has been recognized as Calgary’s top law firm multiple times, bringing credibility and excellence to every aspect of the program.
